SGP.33

eSIM IoT Test Specifications

Also known as: SGP.33-1, SGP.33-2, SGP.33-3, eSIM IoT test specification

SGP.33 is the family of GSMA test specifications for IoT eSIM. It defines the conformance test cases that eUICCs, IoT Profile Assistants and eIMs run to show they implement SGP.32 correctly, and it is the basis for GSMA certification of SGP.32 products.

The three parts

Document Title Component under test
SGP.33-1 eSIM IoT Test Specification for the eUICC The IoT eUICC, including an IPAe if present
SGP.33-2 IPA Test Specification The IPA in the device (IPAd)
SGP.33-3 eUICC IoT Manager Test Specification The eIM

Version 1.2 of all three was published on 27 January 2025 and applies to SGP.32 v1.2. With test specifications in place, certification could begin: Giesecke+Devrient announced the first GSMA-certified SGP.32 IoT eUICC in April 2025.

What conformance testing covers

SGP.33 test cases exercise one component at a time in a controlled lab, with simulators standing in for its counterparts — for example, a simulated SM-DP+, eIM or device when testing an eUICC. They check message formats, security verification, error handling and state transitions on interfaces such as ESipa, ES9+ and ES10. Passing them shows that a component follows the standard and should interoperate at the protocol level.

What it does not cover

Conformance does not prove that a particular device, eUICC, eIM and operator profile work together in the field. It does not tell you:

  • Whether the bootstrap profile can attach in each target country.
  • Whether the downloaded profile’s roaming agreements, APN and radio technologies work on local networks.
  • How the device behaves under weak coverage, power saving or network rejects.

Why it matters for testing

Certification and field testing complement each other: SGP.33 shows a component follows the standard, and live-network testing shows the complete system actually delivers connectivity. SimCheck.ai focuses on the second — real eSIM profiles on real modems on live networks — see how to test SGP.32 devices.
